Obie and I are supporting Scottie as he heads back to Everest this season.  We plan to blog via the Simper Productions website:  www.scottsimper.com.

He is filming Karina Oliani:  www.karinaoliani.com.br/as she attempts to climb Everest via the South Col route.  Madness has ensued as Scott has rallied to be ready in time.  Packing for a trip is always intense for Scott Simper Productions but this is wilder than usual.  There is gear scattered all around the house in organized piles and he’s up late labelling, sorting camera gear and rigging camera mounts.  You have to be stoic to keep the camera equipment working in such an environment and there is just so much more to it than simply climbing for Scott. It’s been awhile since I was last in Nepal (Ama Dablam) and it’s going to be a riot seeing Obie’s reaction to the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.  Luckily he is an open-minded traveller.  We are excited. The plan is to trek as far as we can toward Everest Base camp (keeping the expectations pretty moderate given that Obie is 6). Image

Ouray Chicks with Picks reunion

I hadn’t been back to Ouray since I had Obie.  I spent five excellent years of teaching ice climbing for Kim Reynolds’ Chicks with Picks and met some of my great friends here in the US.  This year was somewhat of a critical mass as quite a few of us “old guides” managed to make it for a top weekend.  Thanks to Dawn Glanc for organizing.  We were pretty casual about actually ice climbing but it was super social and I did get out for some sweet turns in the Red Mountain Pass area with Kitty, Angela and Pat Ormond.  I’m super righteous about my record of 2 days backcountry skiing with Kitty this year.  Image
